MINK x MAI-LOAN TU: 100 Seconds to Midnight (SOLD OUT)

£15.00

100 Seconds to Midnight is a gold interactive pin based on a new drawing by Mai-Loan Tu. The title comes from the recalculation of the Doomsday Clock in January 2021, which now stands the closest it’s ever been to the apocalypse.

When Loan told me this idea for naming the design, it reminded me of one of my favourite facts: that the word apocalypse comes from the Greek apokaluptein, meaning to uncover or to reveal an underlying truth.

The pin can be worn in different ways: the arm of the figure can be turned clockwise to show what’s underneath, or you can rewind the mask and wear it covered up.

• Gold enamel
• 60mm high
• Interactive rotating pin
• Guaranteed good time

Mai-Loan Tu is a French-Vietnamese artist currently based in London. She studied illustration in Belgium before attending the EINA in Barcelona, and her work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions across Venezuela, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK and Vietnam. As well as illustration, she is skilled in paper cutting, embroidery, tattooing, stained glasswork, engraving and sculpture. Although her practice is diverse, Loan’s rich personal style shines through every medium she adopts. Her images are full of narrative and double meanings, and have a strong sense of motion despite the elegance of their execution. She says: “I am interested in creating a meeting space between two universes: the one I propose to the viewer and the one they choose to project on.”
